BBC Report: Leeds may be forced to sell players as £73m deadline looms

Adam Pope claims that if Leeds United doesn’t get promoted to the Premier League, they may have to sell players this summer.

The BBC Radio Leeds journalist said in a post on Thursday, April 11, 2022, that the Whites made a record profit of £189.7 million in 2022–2023 and that the team did well in certain metrics.

However, he added that if the team failed to make an immediate return to the top flight this season, players would unavoidably be sold at Elland Road, with £190 million in transfer fees still outstanding, of which £73 million is due by the end of June.

According to some metrics, United did well off the field, earning a record £189.7 million, according to Pope. However, turnover is vanity and profit is sanity, according to an old proverb. When the business can’t even begin to wipe its own nose, player sales are the temporary fix.

“Not making it back to the Premier League will unavoidably mean selling more of the family silver,” the statement reads. “With £190m in transfer fees owed, of which £73m is due by the end of June alone.”

This season, Leeds United needs to win promotion.
Leeds must return to the Premier League this season; after this year, things might get much more difficult.

This is due to the fact that it would be very challenging to retain their current crop of stars together, as many of them will probably want to return to the top flight as soon as possible.

It would be a great disappointment if they couldn’t finish the job in the upcoming weeks, given how well they’ve performed this calendar year.

The expectation that the Whites would win games has abruptly changed from being low given that Leicester City and Ipswich Town seemed to be running away with promotion.

However, Daniel Farke has the experience needed to lead his team through what will undoubtedly be a difficult time as they attempt to return to the top division.
