BREAKING NEWS:Raiders owner Mark Davis breaks his quiet on WNBA inquiry of Aces…

Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, has broken his silence on the topic. The league is now investigating the Aces over a recent sponsorship arrangement with their players.

The sponsorship arrangement, which comes from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and pays $100,000 to each of the team’s 12 players, is being investigated for possible violations of the league’s collective bargaining agreements.

In a word, the Raiders are paying their players more money than the hard $1.4 million salary ceiling allows, which might put them at a competitive disadvantage.

According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Davis has denied any wrongdoing.

“There was absolutely nothing done wrong,” Davis remarked while attending the Spring Meetings in Nashville. “And I think it’s unfortunate that they used the word investigation rather than something gentler like, ‘Hey, we might look into it’ or anything.

“But they’re going to find there’s nothing wrong.

Davis also contends that developing ways to pay female basketball players more money will save them from needing to travel abroad, allowing them to contribute even more to the community year-round.

“I’m just really proud of (the LVCVA) for doing it and recognizing the value that the women bring to the community,” Davis said. “If in fact we can get them hundreds of thousands of dollars or get into the millions of dollars for all the players, they can stay in the community. They don’t have to go overseas to play.

“They’ll have the resources to stay to work in the community, work with young kids and all of that. And that’s the vision I have for growing the league. Obviously, there are ways that we can’t compensate them, but there’s also third parties that can.
