We’re shocked that the two Ipswich Town players stayed in January.

Here, we’ve examined two Ipswich Town players who, to our surprise, stayed with the team in January.

Ipswich Town is hoping that their January business will serve them well throughout the remainder of the season.

The Tractor Boys, who easily made it to promotion in the previous season, have adapted to life in the Championship and appear to be headed back there this time around.

The team led by Kieran McKenna is now leading the table, ahead of teams like Southampton, Leeds United, and Leicester City.

Therefore, there weren’t going to be a lot of changes made during the January transfer window in terms of both ins and outs.

It seems that the club wanted to sign Lewis Travis, Ali Al-Hamadi, and Kieffer Moore, so it was always going to be what worked best for them.

The fact that there weren’t more player exits during the transfer window may have shocked some supporters of the Islanders. Having said that, here are two players whose departures from the team stunned us.

Humphreys Cameron

Given that Cameron Humphreys came through the club’s youth, it is obvious that he is well-regarded at Portman Road.

The 20-year-old made his debut in the EFL Cup during the 2021–2022 season, but as the seasons have passed, so have his first team appearances. He made 17 appearances in the previous season as the Tractor Boys won promotion to the Championship.

Humphreys, on the other hand, has struggled to get game time this season, appearing just twice in the Championship and making the most of his outings in the EFL Cup.

It’s also surprising that McKenna chose not to look to send the young midfielder out on loan during the transfer window, as game time between now and the end of the season could have prepared him well for next season, especially with players joining the team and the Tractor Boys already having a number of options in midfield.

Sone Aluko

Sone Aluko’s continued status as an Ipswich player is likely surprising given how little the attacker plays for the team.

Aluko left Reading in the summer of 2021 and signed a free transfer with the Tractor Boys. The 34-year-old made 30 appearances in League One during his rookie campaign, but his playing time drastically decreased the following year and has persisted into the 2023–2024 campaign.
