Jaden Philogene would be the perfect replacement for Omari Hutchinson, according to data

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Ipswich Town may need to find a Hutchinson replacement – Jaden Philogene is the perfect candidate, boasting impressive stats.
  •  Philogene outshines Hutchinson this season, scoring more goals, completing more passes, and having a higher expected goals figure.
  •  Despite being an ideal fit, Philogene’s move to Ipswich is unlikely due to interest from big clubs like Tottenham and Aston Villa.

In order to pursue promotion to the Premier League, Ipswich Town may need to find a replacement for Omari Hutchinson in the summer.

The Jamaican international, who joined the Tractor Boys from Chelsea in the summer, is currently on loan. With just three games remaining in the season, few would have predicted Ipswich, who had just been promoted, to be vying for promotion at that point.

Thus far, Hutchinson has been a key member of the team.In the Championship, he has made 41 appearances, most of which have been as an impact substitute off the bench.

His return assist and goal have been impressive despite this. The Jamaican, who can be used anywhere in the front three, has seven goals and six assists in the league.

The Tractor Boys will need to find a replacement for Hutchinson when his loan agreement expires in the summer because he has been essential to their success this season.

Based on the statistics, Jaden Philogene would be the best Hutchinson substitute.

Jaden Philogene of Hull City would be the ideal player to take Hutchinson’s place in the Ipswich side if he does, as predicted, leave the club in the summer.

Based on his statistical profile, Philogene is the closest match for Hutchinson and, according to FBRef, would be a great substitute for the forward.

Both have been a vital component of the Hull and Ipswich attacks this season, contributing goals and assists respectively.

Both players have shown promise with 130 versus 139 outstanding carries, and they both have comparable expected assists per ninety minutes; however, Philogene’s expected goals stat is higher than that of his Ipswich counterpart.

Despite their similarities, Philogene has proven to be the more effective player thus far.

He has completed more passes per ninety minutes, attempted more shots, and scored more goals than his Ipswich counterpart.

Statistics in the Championship this season – FBRef
Player Jaden Philogene Omari Hutchinson
Goals 11 7
Assists 7 6
xG 7.5 4.3
xA 5.2 4.5
Passes completion 77.4% 70.5%
Shots per 90 mins 3.78 2.48
Progressive Carries 139 130

Both men are versatile options for Ipswich because they can play in any position across the front three.

Hutchinson has mostly served as a substitute for the majority of the season, but Philogene would likely be used as a regular starter due to his high cost.

Alfie Gilchrist might be the ideal defensive option if the Tractor Boys are promoted to the Premier League for the 2024–2025 season.

Transferring is unlikely because major league teams want to sign him.

Philogene is a near-perfect Hutchinson replacement, but it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be moving to Portman Road come summertime.

Although the Tractor Boys have a great opportunity to play in the Premier League the following season, a number of much larger teams are rumoured to be interested in signing the Hull winger.

The biggest team reportedly interested in signing Philogene is Tottenham Hotspur, and Crystal Palace is reportedly keeping an eye on his progress there as well.

We must not overlook Aston Villa either.

If the Tigers advance, the forward’s previous team has the option to buy him back for £20 million. Although it seems unlikely to happen, this does indicate their interest in the forward, and they may fight for his signature after the current campaign is over.

It is improbable that he would pick a newly promoted Ipswich over Spurs and Villa, who are competing for the Champions League.

With Adam Wharton’s recent signing demonstrating their capacity to provide minutes to Championship signings, Palace also appear to be a desirable option.

When it comes to the data, Philogene is unquestionably the ideal Hutchinson substitute, but the Tractor Boys won’t be able to finish it.
