Ipswich looking to sign “excellent” talent ahead of Leeds

Although their attention will surely be on recovering their automatic Championship promotion slot from Leeds United, Ipswich Town could yet get one over the Midlands club in the summer market to acquire a potential gem.

Regardless of the outcome of the promotion race, Kieran McKenna and Ipswich deserve recognition for their hard work in achieving their current position after returning to England’s second level last season. It would be a historic occasion if they were able to achieve back-to-back promotions, but with Leeds gaining the automatic position in recent weeks, it remains to be seen whether Ipswich can pull off the hitherto inconceivable.

Whether they end up in the Premier League or the Championship next season, Ipswich’s transfer philosophy will stay same as they seek to develop for the long term. In the January transfer window, the Tractor Boys took a similar tactic, signing 21-year-old Ali Al-Hamadi from AFC Wimbledon and Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

With the summer transfer window quickly coming, McKenna and Co. may want to sign another gem. According to the Daily Record, Ipswich are interested in signing Bobby Wales from Kilmarnock, who previously performed well on loan at Alloa Athletic in Scotland’s League One.

Another Championship side is also interested in him.

If Ipswich wish to recruit the 18-year-old this summer, they will have to overcome Leeds and Stoke City in what might be a tight competition. The Tractor Boys will be hoping that by the time the transfer window opens, they will have the benefit of Premier League play over fellow promotion rivals Leeds. The youth is unquestionably one for the future, albeit it is unclear where that future will take him.

Ipswich will be looking to benefit from this sort of quality, especially if they can outbid Leeds for his services this summer and get an advantage over their Championship opponents.
