A former midfielder for Ipswich Town and Newcastle United makes an amazing medal gesture.

In keeping with his promise, Dyer gave over his medal to Maidenhead United following the final day of the season. It’s even more giving since, despite his career’s worth of individual honors, he never succeeded in taking home a team trophy; this was his first.

Spireites coach Kieron Dyer gave Ellie Yates his National League winners medla.
“I wasn’t going to forget that he had said that, of course, but I also wasn’t going to remind him,” she remarked. I was shocked to see him approach the press box and give it to me as we were airing live. It brought tears to my eyes.

Naturally, the award is kept hidden in a secure place, and Ellie will always remember that day and the gesture.

“I can’t really put into words how much I appreciate it,” she continued, “but it’s not lost on me that there are thousands of fans who have supported Chesterfield a lot longer than me and have done a lot for the club over the years.” It reminds me of how amazing our club is with the community and supporters, as well as how wonderful Kieron is as a person, and it means a lot to me. I let my cousin’s son and his buddy, as well as the children that sit in front of me at every game, to wear it and take a picture because I wanted them to have that memory as fans.”
