Former Huddersfield Town, Derby County and Ipswich Town man to become a free agent as release confirmed

Forest Green Rovers have released Richard Keogh, a former Huddersfield Town defender.

In February, the veteran defender joined Forest Green on a short-term contract. He made 14 appearances for the team as they failed to avoid relegation from League Two.

His contract was not renewed beyond the summer, therefore he is now set to leave and become a free agent. In a press release, Forest Green said: “Forest Green would like to say thank you to all of the players for their hard work, with special mention to Dom Bernard and Matty Stevens, who helped the club win promotion to League One in 2021/2022.”

Keogh, an EFL veteran, having played in all three lower-tier leagues and twice in Yorkshire. He was on loan at Huddersfield in 2007 and returned to the club for the 2020/21 season.

The former Republic of Ireland international has also represented Bristol City, Derby County, and Ipswich Town. He was released alongside fellow former Terrier, Reece Brown, who left Huddersfield for Forest Green in 2022.

Retained lists are being published around the country following the completion of the regular League One, League Two, and National League seasons. Several high-profile players, like former Huddersfield midfielder Adam Clayton, have become available as free agents.

Huddersfield’s retained list will most likely be made public in the coming weeks, when the regular Championship season ends. Andre Breitenreiter’s team will complete the season against Ipswich Town, although they have already been essentially relegated to League One.
