Club Moves to Trigger Contract Option of Striker Linked to Sunderland and Ipswich.

Sam Gallagher: Southampton striker passes Blackburn medical | Football News | Sky Sports

In the latest round of transfer speculations surrounding the Championship, attention has been drawn to Blackburn’s imminent move to activate a one-year extension clause in Sam Gallagher’s contract. This decision comes amidst reported interest in the forward from various other clubs. Ipswich Town, for instance, were reportedly keen on securing the services of the 28-year-old during the January transfer window. However, they eventually opted for Kieffer Moore on loan from Bournemouth. Additionally, Sunderland and Birmingham were also believed to be monitoring Gallagher’s situation with interest.

Despite enduring a significant portion of the season on the sidelines due to injury, Gallagher managed to notch up only three goals in 24 league appearances. Nevertheless, according to reports from TeamTalk, Blackburn has opted to exercise the option of extending the striker’s contract for an additional year. Talks are also said to be underway to potentially extend Gallagher’s tenure at the club beyond the current deal, which runs until 2025.

Meanwhile, Sunderland finds themselves in the market for reinforcements upfront as they gear up for the upcoming season. The Black Cats were unable to secure the services of a new striker during the January transfer window. Having already bolstered their attacking options with the signings of four young forwards last summer, the club now faces the dilemma of whether to loan out promising talents such as Hemir Semedo and Eliezer Mayenda for more regular playing time in the forthcoming campaign. Thus, while Sunderland assesses their squad dynamics, the pursuit of striking reinforcements remains a key priority in their summer transfer plans.
