Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna is reportedly the leading candidate for the vacant Brighton managerial position, according to talkSPORT. The Northern Irish manager has led the Tractor Boys to two consecutive promotions but might depart this summer. McKenna has also been linked to former club Manchester United, where he was an assistant to Jose Mourinho, and to Chelsea. However, talkSPORT reports that the 38-year-old is no longer in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

If McKenna leaves Ipswich, the club is considering Luton’s Rob Edwards as a potential replacement. Former Hull manager Liam Rosenior is also a contender, despite being sacked by the Tigers after finishing seventh in the Championship.

Brighton is searching for a successor to Roberto De Zerbi, who will leave the club this summer. De Zerbi, who replaced Graham Potter in September 2022, guided Brighton to European qualification for the first time last season. Although De Zerbi has been linked with the Chelsea job, talkSPORT understands that Chelsea is interested in appointing Enzo Maresca from Leicester City.

McKenna, having led Ipswich to second place in the Championship, just a point behind Leicester and six points clear of the play-offs, could be set to take over at Brighton for their eighth consecutive season in the top flight. Ipswich’s achievement comes a year after their promotion from League One, ending their 22-year Premier League absence. Ipswich will join Leicester and play-off winners Southampton in the Premier League next season, but McKenna might not remain at the helm. Brighton, who finished 11th, are optimistic about securing his services before the summer.
