Colts coach provides no details on Tony Brown’s suspension

Two players, including a former Alabama defensive back, have been suspended by the Indianapolis Colts “for conduct detrimental to the team,” the team stated on Tuesday.

Colts coach Shane Steichen refrained from going into detail on Wednesday regarding the behavior that resulted in the team suspending wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie and cornerback Tony Brown for the following three games.

At the beginning of his press conference on Wednesday, Steichen stated, “I know you guys are going to have questions about specifics, but it’s a matter that we’re handling internally and I got nothing to add on that, and we’re getting ready for Atlanta.”

In response to a question regarding how difficult it was to decide to suspend the players, Steichen stated, “We have to hold people accountable around here. There are standards.” That concludes it.

When asked if the players would return to the team if the Colts made the playoffs, Steichen replied that he had “nothing to add.” Indianapolis has three games left in the regular season.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Brown and McKenzie’s lockers had been taken out of the Colts’ locker room.

Before being declared a game-day inactive for Saturday’s 30-13 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brown had participated in 12 of Indianapolis’ 13 games this season. He has played 252 special teams plays and 56 defensive snaps.

McKenzie was a game-day inactive for Saturday’s match, having participated in every game thus far this season. McKenzie, who averaged 8.9 yards on 23 returns, was the punt returner for Indianapolis. In 2023, he also has three 14-yard rush attempts and 11 receptions for 82 yards.

The Colts play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at 12:00 CST. Indianapolis is currently tied for first place in the AFC South with an 8-6 record, along with the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts are currently in the final wild-card slot in the AFC playoff standings after tiebreakers.
