Rockets’ Jabari Smith Jr. Tweets Approval for Falcons’ Selection of Michael Penix Jr.

Despite the Falcons’ dubious selection of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft, Jabari Smith Jr. of the Houston Rockets tweeted his support for the player.

HOUSTON — Atlanta Falcons fanatic Jabari Smith Jr., a forward for the Houston Rockets, is a native of Fayetteville, Georgia.

He has not held back when it comes to showing off his fandom in the locker room since the Rockets selected him with the third overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Not only that, but Smith has remained loyal to his love for the Falcons even after expressing his admiration for Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The 2024 NFL Draft began on Thursday night. The selection of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. by the Falcons with the eighth overall pick was perhaps their most unexpected move.

Penix’s selection was called into question after four-time Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins signed a free agent contract. The seasoned quarterback signed a four-year, $100 million contract in March, and he became a member of the team.

Smith expressed his happiness with the Falcons’ selection of Penix in a tweet after the draft, despite the controversy surrounding the team’s choice.

Although it might take a while before Smith gets an opportunity to watch Penix lead his favorite team, the Washington rookie prospect entered the draft as one of the top players at his position.

He led the Washington Huskies to the National Championship game in January following a 14-1 record. Penix finished the season with career highs across the board, throwing for 4,903 yards while completing 65.4 percent of his passes and 36 touchdowns.

Whenever Penix takes the field for the Falcons, Smith will be in Houston cheering his new franchise quarterback to victory.
