Coach Ty Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers agrees that both players are high-volume scorers for the Rockets with promising futures.
According to The Athletic, Clippers head coach Ty Lue stated, “T-Mac and Vince Carter when they got to Toronto.” It makes me think of those two guys a lot. Two really athletic guys who are able to work out how to play together. They are kind of the same pair here in Houston.
McGrady and Carter only played two seasons together with the Toronto Raptors before the former signed with the Orlando Magic in 2000, but both players were seen as high-flying athletes who could have dominated the league together if they remained teammates.
It remains to be seen how long Green and Whitmore will have that chance together in Houston. Green has just one more year on his contract before he hits restricted free agency next year, which could make him a trade target for the foreseeable future.
But if the Rockets decide to give Green more time and let him develop with Whitmore, the two might end up becoming a formidable duo in the future.
The Portland Trail Blazers will be the Rockets’ opponent tonight when Green, Whitmore, and the team return to action. The cutoff time is 9:00 p.m. CT.
