Sky Sports will broadcast the Edinburgh Derby live tonight, and supporters will be happy to hear that the match is not in danger.
The Hearts vs. Hibs Edinburgh derby is set to go ahead tonight despite the nationwide havoc caused by Storm Gerrit.
The rivals from the city are set to face off at Easter Road this evening. The highlight match will be aired live on Sky Sports. In a ground-breaking move, Hibees manager Nick Montgomery will give fans a behind-the-scenes peek at what goes on from the bench during the live stream. Assistant Sergio Raimundo will also wear a bodycam to provide a first-hand perspective from the technical area. Additionally, before the game, Hearts has permitted the broadcasters to eat dinner at the squad hotel.
Still, supporters were concerned that the game could have to be canceled due to the bad weather. While significant snowfall and winds as high as 80 mph have fallen in other parts of Scotland, the city has been battered by wind and heavy rain all day.
But those concerns have been allayed, as a Hibs insider told Football Scotland that the pitch is in excellent playing condition, therefore there is no possibility of a postponement for tonight’s Premiership encounter. The news will come as a huge relief to the 20,000 sold-out spectators expected to pack the stadium tonight.
As previously mentioned, the Rangers’ game against Ross County has been postponed because of issues with the Staggies team bus and parts of the A9 that were either completely stopped or closed.
As it stands, it is expected that the three other Premiership matches—St Johnstone vs. Livingston, Aberdeen vs. Motherwell, and St Mirren vs. Kilmarnock—will occur.
