Hibernian “deserve to be in finals,” according to Poppy Lawson, as the team wraps up preparations to play Partick Thistle in the Sky Sports Cup semi-final.
Speaking at the practice field before the cup match, Lawson expressed her encouragement at the year’s beginning performances, but she did not downplay the difficulty the team will face on Sunday.
With Lawson in the center of a defense that has scored 21 goals while keeping three straight clean sheets over the past five games, our number 33 was largely satisfied with the effort against Hamilton Academical last week.
“We played well in the first half, but we faltered a little bit in the second. We discussed it, but even though we’re improving as a team every week, it can be challenging to maintain the standards.
Fortunately, we comfortably led after halftime after putting four past Hamilton. Now, it’s all about going forward to Sunday.
Knowing the struggle they would face in Glasgow, Lawson urged the rest of the team to stay focused as they prepared for the trip to Petershill Park.
Because it’s a semi-final, all the girls are giddy. This team has worked hard this week to prepare for the finals, which is where we should be.
“Partick Thistle is a good team with several good players and a strong management. They are prepared for a pitched battle and a physical altercation, but our supporters can anticipate an entertaining match if we can apply our game plan and perform like we have been doing.
“Perhaps we can send them on their way happy.”
