The manager who won the Scottish Cup in 2016 believes Hibs has a promising future.
Alan Stubbs believes that Hibs must meet a certain standard, but in an era of fresh investment, manager Nick Montgomery needs support.
This Sunday, the Easter Road team plays Rangers in a quarterfinal of the Scottish Cup. They are confident going into the game since they have won their last five games and because Bournemouth owner Bill Foley’s minority investment has been approved in full.
When Hibs defeated Rangers in 2016 to win the Scottish Cup, Stubbs was the manager. He maintains that finishing in the top six is the very least that should be the goal. Their best chance of winning versus Rangers in the cup will come from holding nothing.
“I think when you look at the investment, I think it has given everybody a lift,” he stated to Glasgow World. There was a bit of a no-man’s land around the season. They were only floating around, but I believe there has been a significant uptick since the good news about the investment and the new hires.
“With regard to this fixture, it also arrives at a favorable moment. Based on past performances, Hibs has to improve their defense. They will benefit going ahead since they have an additional ingredient that they did not have in earlier games.
“They have suffered a few significant losses at the hands of this Rangers squad defensively. Hibs must create discomfort, get off to a strong start, challenge Rangers, and pose questions to them.”
Support for the manager is one thing that needs to happen following investment, according to Stubbs. According to him, stability must be prioritized over a hamster wheel. According to Stubbs, Nick will emphasize to the players that he wants the season to end strongly.
“I firmly anticipate that Hibs will continue their excellent recent play. For him specifically, I believe it would be a huge benefit because, given their current funding situation, I believe the top six is the absolute least for them.
“However, the fact that they were able to give them an opportunity for a strong finish is really encouraging for him. They must support him. The management cannot be replaced on a regular basis. We just appear to be going around in circles like a hamster wheel. The club has, in my opinion, changed managers frequently because it is always the simplest course of action.
“However, they also needed to examine themselves to see why they were making these choices and why they weren’t correct. As they have made it off the field with the investment, perhaps now there might be some consistency and improvement on the field.”
