BREAKABLE Thanks to the sell-on clause, Josh Doig’s announced Sassuolo move will give Hibs a six-figure transfer windfall.

Josh Doig, a defender for Scotland, has finished his transfer from Hellas Verona to Sassuolo. The summer 2022 transfer of the 21-year-old left-back, who originally signed with Verona from Hibs, nearly resulted in a transfer to Marseille earlier this month, but the agreement fell through. Having signed for Sassuolo for an estimated sum of £5 million, Doig will now stay in Serie A. Doig’s previous team, Easter Road, will be quite interested in the news because they have a profit sell-on clause that is believed to be worth about 25%. Verona paid almost £3 million for Doig, therefore Hibs should be anticipating a payment of about £500,000.

Doig was eager to leave the Serie A underdogs during this transfer window because he hasn’t played much for Hellas Verona this season. Torino had also been keeping a careful eye on his circumstances. Although Marseille, the dominant team in French Ligue 1, thought they had won the race to recruit him, Verona preferred to work with another Italian team, and on Saturday morning the move to Sassuolo was eventually finalized.

When his new team plays Monza the following weekend, Doig might make his debut. The midfielder wants to stay in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad, thus he will want to play more consistent first-team football. Although the Under-21 internationalist was called up to squads last year, he has not yet received a senior cape.
