Due to a mix of illness and injury, three Hearts players are listed as doubtful for this weekend’s trip to Celtic. The coaching and medical staff are collaborating closely to ascertain which players will be fit for the trip to Glasgow as the Edinburgh club looks to recover from its loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.
After being sidelined for the past two games due to a hamstring injury, striker Liam Boyce has participated in some training sessions at Riccarton. He has an outside chance of being totally fit at this point, but he will be checked again this week.
Nathaniel Atkinson, the defender, has not participated in full training since being ill and missing the Aberdeen game. He might be able to play against Celtic if he heals in time to practice well in the second half of the week.
Calem Nieuwenhof, a midfielder, is recovering from a hand injury and has been sent for a scan to find out how serious the issue is. Before determining whether to put him in the team this Saturday, Hearts will consider medical advice.
All three are raising some concerns, according to head coach Steven Naismith, who made this statement to the Edinburgh News. “Natty has been ill so he is still not back in full training,” he stated. “At the beginning of the week, we suffered a setback when several players were not present on the training field. Hopefully, none of them are real.
We are having Calem Nieuwenhof’s hand examined because he is having trouble with it. It’s still swollen from the weekend and hasn’t gotten much better. Since it’s a hand injury, we merely need to follow the recommendations provided. He can still run around, but we’ll have to wait and see if it’s acceptable for him to be engaged or if he needs a break.
“Boycie is returning to the field and is improving. He passes one level because of a hamstring injury, but when it comes to the next, you have to push him to the brink to see if he can make it. He has a chance, but I wouldn’t say I’m 100% sure he’ll be involved this weekend.”
