Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland may be disciplined by the SFA for giving Aberdeen supporters the finger.
The 28-year-old goal machine gave his team the lead again at Pittodrie, but it wasn’t enough as they lost 2-1 in a place where they haven’t triumphed since 2016. At full time, the striker was the target of jeers from supporters of his previous team, to which he retaliated by pointing a finger at them.
Someone at the home end captured the incident on tape, and it was posted on social media. It is thought that Shankland may now be in trouble for potentially violating disciplinary rule 77, which deals with offensive language and behavior. Leigh Griffiths, a former Hibs striker, was sanctioned for a gesture he made to his OWN supporters.
A representative for the SFA declined to comment on this particular event, but according to the Daily Record, incidents can be reviewed retrospectively even if they are not mentioned in the referee’s match report.
Hearts suffered their second consecutive loss following a four-game winning streak, but things won’t get any easier going forward as they play Celtic away, St. Mirren at home in third place, and an Edinburgh Derby at Easter Road.
Pundits have continuously connected Shankland to Rangers, but it’s unclear if the Ibrox team has any real interest.
