The captain of Hearts has addressed the mounting rumors that he may be leaving Tynecastle.
Lawrence Shankland won’t let the transfer rumors to affect his play on the field because he thinks the rumors of a January move to Rangers are just more evidence that he’s at the top of his game.
The captain of Hearts, who has been constantly linked to a move away from Tynecastle, scored his team’s 2-0 victory over Celtic on Saturday, marking his 13th goal scored domestically. Hearts intends to start negotiations with their star striker on a new contract, chief executive Andrew McKinlay announced at last week’s AGM. The club maintains that no approach has been made for the 28-year-old.
With his eighth goal in nine games, Shankland’s header in the first fifteen minutes of the match against Celtic helped move Hearts back up to third position. With 28 goals in 2022–2023 season, he is already well on his way to surpassing his 20-goal threshold for the second consecutive season.
The former Aberdeen striker responded to the mounting rumors with a simple statement, saying, “It’s a sign I’m doing my job well and scoring goals.” I only concentrate on performing my job for Hearts to the best of my ability.
With his header, the 28-year-old not only scored his 13th goal in the country, but he also scored goals at Celtic Park and Ibrox this season, in addition to scoring in the Viaplay Cup at Hampden Park and against Georgia for his country.
The striker said that Saturday’s goal was his favorite, saying, “I was just focused on hitting the target.” It all comes down to hitting the target when you’re feeling a little liberated. Winning always makes everything better. It’s much more unique because of that. That was a performance the boys should be proud of. The last time Hearts came here and prevailed was a very long time ago. We deserved to enjoy those moments, so you should too.”
