Gers can sign a £3.5k per week player from Hearts for free; he has previously been tipped for an Ibrox move.

Rangers have consistently been linked with one Hearts player for the last few transfer windows but it should maybe Beni Baningime and not Lawrence Shankland. The 25-year old midfielder is out of contract in the summer and it is an area of the park that the Gers boss could do with reinforcements for his squad.

There are a few question marks in that area of the Rangers team and with money needing to be spent elsewhere previously tipped Beni Baningime could be a bargain.

Rangers can repeat Glen Kamara move with Beni Baningime

Having spent nearly the last ten years in British football, the Hearts destroyer has been brought up on the physicality of the game on these shores.

He has also been in Scotland since 2021 after finally leaving Everton for good to head to Gorgie on a free transfer, earning a reported £3,500 per week.

On paper, he could replicate the sort of signing that Glen Kamara was.

Knows the league, cheap, consistent, and with the potential to bring a few pounds in further down the line.

For most of Rangers games, we need our midfielders to dictate the tempo and be aggressive with their passing, this is where Beni Baningime might struggle.

The best comparison is Kieran Dowell.

He’s not a natural defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker in terms of his qualities out of possession but he has taken to the responsibility as if he has always done it.

From being top of the list of players to be moved on in January, he has now done enough in recent games to suggest that he should be a regular fixture of Philippe Clement’s starting XI.

What Baningime might offer is protection for the defence in more open games away from home or in European football.

There is no point having a group of midfielders that all do the same thing.

Rangers have always, traditionally, taken the best of the rest and Beni Baningime has proven that he is a good player.

If it was down to me though, I’d rather have Connor Barron, not just because he is a better player and classed as home grown but can you imagine the seethe from Aberdeen fans!?
