Following Hearts’ departure, Carlisle United loses out on a deal to sign a free agent.

3 free agent midfielders Carlisle United should consider

Goalkeeper Ross Stewart was the subject of a potential move, but it fell through, according to Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson.

For the previous three weeks, Carlisle United has been keeping an eye on the goalkeeper and had made an agreement to sign him.

Stewart, 28, left Hearts in the summer and is now a free agent.

According to a News & Star report, Simpson stated: “We just have to deal with it and get on with it.” We are currently considering other options because it is not possible and will not occur before January.

Carlisle United, Carlisle United miss out on deal to land free agent after Hearts departure

Carlisle United delivered a blow.
It is a loss for Carlisle and the player himself to lose out on Stewart. With Jokull Andersson out with an injury, the League One team needs more depth between the sticks.
Right now, Tomas Holy is the top performer, followed by young Gabriel Breeze in second place. But the latter is inexperienced.
Simpson had seen Stewart as the perfect opponent for Holy in the upcoming months, but he will now need to find another target. Next month is the January transfer window, which gives him the opportunity to add a new player.
Three points from safety, Carlisle is currently ranked 22nd in the third tier table. This Saturday, they will return to action as they travel to Bloomfield Road to play Blackpool.
Stewart is still looking for work. He began his playing career at Motherwell and has since played for many Scottish clubs, including Albion Rovers, St. Mirren, Livingston, and Queen of the South.
In 2020, he signed a temporary contract to join his former team, Hearts, before moving on a permanent basis. The former Scotland youth international later made six appearances for the Edinburgh team.
