Morton’s long throws in were too much for Dunfermline to handle as they lost 5-0 at East End Park.

With fifteen minutes remaining, center back Darragh O’Connor, a fellow defender, and replacement Michael Garrity all added goals to make it 5-0. Defender Jack Baird scored twice.

It was understandable that Dunfermline fans were unhappy with the performance, and many of them left when Baird made it 4-0.

A rampaging Morton gave central defender Xavier Benjamin a rough introduction; he is now 12 games undefeated.

Morton had a better start, with Strapp’s long throws creating a lot of trouble.

After ten minutes, O’Connor gave Dougie Imrie’s team the lead by tapping in a low cross from Robbie Muirhead.

The Pars didn’t help themselves; in their effort to go up the park, they occasionally put themselves in danger.

By the twenty-fiveth minute, all they could muster was a header from Lewis McCann, but the striker was always straining following a nice sequence of play down the right.

As Dunfermline made a little improvement, Owen Moffat replaced the injured Craig Wighton, forcing Dunfermline to make an early change.

Josh Edwards sprinted the entire nearly length of the field for the away team after another corner on the half-hour mark, but Barid stopped his shot since there were no other options.

Within minutes, Baird doubled the score. Once more, Strapp was the provider with a long throw. George Oakley’s header was superbly saved by Deniz Mehmet, but the Morton captain bundled the ball in at the back post.

Dunfermline’s first half was summed up by Moffat, who skewed Ewan Otoo’s cutback wide just before the break, following another excellent Pars passage of play.

Second segment

Although McPake’s team had a stronger start to the second half, O’Connor scored his second goal of the day barely six minutes after the break.

Once more, Strapp fired the ball into the box, and the Pars defense could only watch as the Morton defender forced the ball in to make it 3-0 after several failed attempts to clear their lines.

Trying to catch goalkeeper Ryan Mullen off his line, Malachi Fagan-Walcott struck the bar with a hooked effort from a set-piece of their own, giving Dunfermline their first real chance to threaten the opposition’s goal.

After a fine stop from Mehmet to deny George Oakley’s initial header, Baird made it 4-0 once again from close range, sending Dunfermline supporters running for the exits.

The Pars had a brief period of control until McPake added midfielder Paul Allan and Brad Holmes, who made his debut. However, they lost further ground.

This time, it was Mehmet’s replacement Garrity who scored, capping a terrible afternoon for Dunfermline.
