Taylor Decker misses Lions practice with groin injury

Lions-Bears, Week 17

ALLEN PARK — He’s already overcome back and ankle problems to play. Now that the regular season is nearing its end, Taylor Decker will try to manage a groin issue.

On Tuesday, when the team did not practice, the Detroit Lions left tackle was labeled as restricted by the injury on the estimated practice report. When the game plan installation got underway for the Saturday night matchup between the AT&T Stadium Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys, Decker was nowhere to be seen.

Although Decker has one less day to recover due to the short week, he is a resilient athlete who has no problem persevering through injuries. On opening night, he played through a high ankle sprain and bone bruise.

Additionally absent from Detroit’s practices was tight end Brock Wright (hip), while safety Kerby Joseph seemed to aggravate his groin during individual drills. Joseph kept taking pictures till the media was removed, but he also kept trying to enlarge that area following his pictures. When the injury report is out later today, everyone will be watching his status very carefully.

You may have heard that Detroit has already secured the NFC North title and the corresponding home playoff match. Therefore, there is room to move cautiously during the last two weeks of the regular season with injured players.

But if the Lions win out, they still have a chance to go up to the No. 2 seed, or perhaps higher if San Francisco drops a game in the final stretch. Detroit can only finish no worse than third as it stands right now.
