Key Detroit Lions defensive back discovered to have unknown injury

It’s definitely too early to fear, but recent photos show Detroit Lions safety and nickelback Brian Branch healing from an unexplained injury.

Branch was sighted in town during the draft, and photographs show the 2023 second-round pick wearing a boot and getting around on a scooter. The boot is on Branch’s left foot, and it’s unclear what he’s dealing with right now or what his future situation is.

This is obviously problematic because Branch was a major member of the Lions’ defence in 2023 and is desperately required in a season when Detroit hopes to win the Super Bowl.

Throughout his rookie season, the Alabama product was spectacular in the position. Last season, Branch had a PFF coverage grade of 76.0 after allowing a 62.7% completion rate and 86.9 passer rating when targeted.

The Lions did add a lot of reinforcements this offseason, which might help if Branch is forced to miss any time. Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, draft picks, as well as free agent addition Amik Robertson, can all play out of the spot.
