‘With ease’: Journalist hails 8/10 Derby County star after ‘foot-perfect’ display vs Cambridge

One Derby County ace has been hailed by local media for his display yesterday.

Derby moved a step closer to automatic promotion on Saturday as they secured a crucial 1-0 away victory at Cambridge United.

The Rams went ahead in the first half through Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who got on the end of a superb Louie Sibley pass.

Paul Warne‘s side had to stand up strong in the second half and rely on their resolute back three and one one player notably stood out.

Journalist hails Eiran Cashin

Wycombe Wanderers v Derby County - Sky Bet League One

Eiran Cashin only celebrated his 22nd birthday in November but there was a great deal of maturity in his performance yesterday.

Leigh Curtis, in his player ratings for DerbyshireLive, heaped praise on Cashin and awarded him an eight-match rating. No player received a higher mark.

“The centre-back was pretty much foot-perfect defensively. There was one moment when he and Bonne were in a foot race and he took care of him with ease,” Curtis wrote

.

The Rams academy graduate has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign at the back and yesterday saw his side keep their 21st clean sheet of the season, which is pretty incredible.

No side in League One can better that feat, with Lincoln City joining the list in second with 19, as per FootyStats.

Eiran Cashin’s incredible stats v Cambridge United

Cashin’s incredible statistics against Cambridge only amplify how influential he was on the left of Warne’s defence. Here they are, as per Sofascore.

It was a colossus display from the 2001-born defender, who won a whopping 10 aerial duels despite his relatively short height for a defender (6ft).

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this year, Cashin admitted that he’s had to adapt his game to cope physically.

“I probably wouldn’t be a typical centre-half, if you were to cut one out,” the Derby defender said.

“I’m not the biggest or the tallest or the strongest, but I’ve found a way to make it work. I work on all my strengths and all my weaknesses and I make sure that my weaknesses are not too bad.”

Cashin continued: “Part of my development is learning how to deal with that physicality, because you can’t just go shoulder-to-shoulder with some of them. You have to box clever, as they say.”
