Transfer News: Derby County Table Three-year Deal for 19-year old Charlton Forward

Derby County is keen on securing the services of Thierry Small from Charlton Athletic this summer, according to sources close to Football Insider. Despite a potential three-year contract extension offer from Charlton, the Rams are eyeing the 19-year-old left-back to bolster their squad for their Championship campaign.

Small, who previously played for Everton’s youth setup, made the switch to Charlton from Southampton in January and has made 14 appearances for the League One side this season. While Charlton intends to activate their option to extend his current contract, Small is deliberating his options amid interest from Derby County.

As of now, no official bid has been made by Derby County, leaving Charlton’s offer as the sole proposition on the table. Opting to trigger the extension would strengthen Charlton’s bargaining position, potentially allowing them to maximize any transfer fee.

Despite joining Charlton for free just six months ago, Small could yield immediate profits for the club if he chooses to depart. Nevertheless, Charlton sees him as a crucial part of their future plans under owner Charlie Methven.

While a move to Derby County might offer Small the opportunity to showcase his talents in the Championship and potentially attract Premier League interest, Charlton’s offer of a stable three-year deal could entice him to settle and focus on his development after experiencing frequent changes in clubs in recent years.

Previously attracting interest from clubs like Tottenham and Rangers, Small’s potential move to the Championship could serve as a platform to enhance his reputation and eventually make a return to the Premier League.
