Report: Warne is ‘keeping tabs’ on teenage starlet with a bright future for Derby County, he’ll cost £0

Derby County is keeping a close watch on a promising young talent as they gear up for the upcoming transfer activities after securing promotion to the Championship.

Following their recent promotion success, Derby faces the challenge of rebuilding their squad, especially with the departure of several key players whose contracts are ending this summer. The club aims to inject both athleticism and quality into their team, and they’ve already shown interest in players like loanee Ebou Adams and Celtic’s Bosun Lawal.

Their latest target is Hearts’ young talent Rocco Friel, a 17-year-old right-back who has also showcased skills as a right-sided midfielder. Although Queens Park Rangers are in discussions to sign him, Derby and Leicester City are closely monitoring Friel’s situation.

Friel, who previously trained with Leicester and Derbyshire clubs after leaving Rangers in 2021, has been a consistent performer in Hearts’ B team, contributing goals and assists in the lowland league. His versatility and potential make him an appealing prospect for Derby, especially as they look to strengthen their right flank for the long term.

Despite a failed attempt to sign him in January, Derby is now in a better position financially to pursue Friel. His experience in the lowland leagues and the prospect of Championship football could be enticing for him. His addition would not only provide depth and security but also a chance for Derby to nurture another promising talent into a future star.
