Portsmouth rival gives recruitment admission as Bolton send warning

Portsmouth is gearing up for a return to the Championship after clinching the League One title recently. John Mousinho’s team secured promotion by defeating Barnsley 3-2 on April 16, marking their comeback to the second tier after an 11-year absence.

Fratton Park is poised for a busy summer as Pompey readies itself for the significant leap, with Derby County also set to join them in the Championship after earning promotion. The Rams, who finished second in League One, are making headlines alongside Bolton Wanderers, who are eyeing a play-off spot.

Derby’s manager, Paul Warne, emphasizes that the focus is on recruitment to ensure a competitive return to the Championship. Despite trailing behind Portsmouth in League One, both teams are likely to target similar players in the upcoming transfer window.

Warne stated to Derbyshire Live, “We’ve been planning extensively, holding recruitment meetings since January and attempting signings during the winter window. Our strategy is to recruit with the Championship in mind, allowing for adjustments if needed in a short window.”

Dion Charles of Bolton, despite a 3-1 first-leg win against Barnsley in the play-offs, stresses that their semi-final outcome remains uncertain. Charles, who scored twice in that match, aims to help Bolton secure promotion to the Championship alongside Portsmouth and Derby.
