EFL explain why Derby County are back among the ‘leaders’

Derby County Chief Executive Applauds Staff for Family Excellence Gold Award

Derby County’s chief executive, Stephen Pearce, has commended the club’s “passionate and driven” staff following their receipt of the Football League’s Family Excellence Gold Award. The Rams are one of just 13 clubs in the EFL to receive this prestigious award, which acknowledges outstanding engagement with families on matchdays.

A record 68 clubs received recognition this season, achieving gold, silver, or bronze status based on the quality of the family experience they provide.

“We are delighted to have achieved the Family Excellence Gold Award for the 2023/24 season,” Pearce stated. “A lot of hard work has taken place behind the scenes to improve and enhance our matchday experience, especially for children and young people attending matches with their families. We understand the importance of providing a safe and welcoming environment at Pride Park Stadium for those beginning their journey supporting the club.”

Pearce continued, “To see that hard work pay off by being one of just 13 EFL clubs to achieve Gold status is a testament to the efforts of our passionate and driven staff. We have shown the standard we are capable of achieving and, as a club, we are determined to remain at the forefront of Family Excellence in the EFL in the seasons ahead.”

The Family Excellence Scheme has significantly boosted family engagement, with over one million junior supporters enjoying live matchday experiences at EFL games across the Sky Bet Championship, League One, and League Two in the 2023/24 season.

The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme evaluates the family matchday experience through assessors who review various touchpoints, including ticket purchasing, matchday activities, accessibility, facilities, and family communications.

The report summary, based on two visits to Derby County during the 2023/24 season, highlighted, “This season’s two EFL Family Excellence assessments have showcased numerous innovative and well-implemented examples of engagement at Pride Park. The consistently strong experience has significantly improved from 2022/23 and positions the club back among the leaders for family excellence in the EFL.”

Derby County has recently introduced Rammie and Ewie’s Activity Zone on home matchdays. This area is specifically designed for families, providing an interactive, fun, and safe space before kick-off. The Family Fun Zone is located in Harrison’s Hub, in the North West Corner of the stadium.
