Devastating News: EFL judges make it a Derby County double but star man misses out on top honour

Eiran Cashin and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing have been commended for their outstanding performances in Derby County’s push for promotion, earning spots in the League One team of the season. This recognition came during the Football League’s end-of-season awards in London last night. Cashin’s solid presence in defense, particularly his partnership with Curtis Nelson, has been crucial in Derby’s success, conceding only 37 goals this season, jointly the best record in the division alongside Portsmouth and Lincoln City. Mendez-Laing, on the other hand, has consistently contributed to the team’s creativity, leading the assists chart with his impressive performances.

The winger’s impressive stats include 16 assists and 8 goals this season, contributing significantly to Derby’s hopes of returning to the Championship. His stellar performances even put him in contention for the Player of the Year award, where he competed against Marlon Pack from Portsmouth and Harrison Burrows from Peterborough, with Burrows ultimately winning the honor.

The Manager of the Year award in League One went to John Mousinho of Portsmouth, whose team is favored to win the title and secure promotion to the Championship. Portsmouth’s recent draw against Bolton was beneficial for Derby, as it placed the fate of Derby’s promotion back in their own hands.

Here’s the League One team of the year: Norris (Portsmouth), Dacres-Cogley (Bolton), Shaughnessy (Portsmouth), Cashin (Derby), Burrows (Peterborough); Mendez-Laing (Derby), Pack (Portsmouth), Sheehan (Bolton), Mason-Clark (Peterborough); May (Charlton), Reid (Stevenage).
