Curtis Nelson makes 'top drawer' Eiran Cashin admission after landing double Derby County accolade - Derbyshire Live

Curtis Nelson received Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Year awards at Derby County’s end-of-season ceremony last night, recognising his outstanding performance this season.

This season, the center-back has contributed significantly to the club’s promotion push, with the Rams having the best defensive record in League One.

Derby have conceded just 37 goals, and their consistency has put them in a position where they only need one point from their game against Carlisle this weekend to ensure their return to the Championship.Nelson, who joined on a free transfer from Blackpool last summer, has played every league game this season and is a valuable member of the squad.

Nelson’s team-mates have recognised his form, and he told Derbyshire Live: “I was really pleased with that one. We don’t blow smoke up each other’s backsides every day, so for them to vote for me for that award is incredible. I am very pleased with both awards, and we have yet to complete the season’s goal, which we hope to do on Saturday.

Nelson and Eiran Cashin’s telepathic understanding has been crucial to Derby’s promotion hopes this season, making their partnership one of the best in the league.

Cashin describes Nelson as a huge influence on and off the pitch, nicknaming him ‘Uncle Nels’ for the way he encourages him to keep going to the gym.
