Curtis Davies says he loved working for Derby County and Paul Warne following their promotion back to the Championship, and that the pre-season laid the groundwork for future success.

The Rams returned to the second level with a 2-0 victory over Carlisle, winning second place amidst memorable scenes at Pride Park. Derby finished the season with a club record number of points and the most away victories of any Rams team in history.

It was a momentous season in many ways, with Warne receiving his fourth promotion of his career to strengthen his managerial credentials. Derby legend Davies hailed Warne for spearheading the club’s triumphant return to the second division.

Derby County promotion special

Derby County has achieved a triumphant return to the Championship, and we want you to join us in celebrating their success.

Our Man At The Rams, Leigh Curtis, has written a 48-page special souvenir edition of the Derby Telegraph that is entirely dedicated to the club’s extraordinary turnaround.

A club that went from near-extinction to magnificent elevation.

Leigh chronicles the season’s progress and how a David Clowes-owned Derby County team rebuilt from the Ashes after nearly missing out in their debut season under new owner and manager Paul Warne.

This season has been filled with drama, highs and lows, culminating in those extraordinary moments on the pitch following the game against Carlisle United.

At the final whistle, Pride Park erupted in joy as fans swarmed the pitch to celebrate their first promotion since Billy Davies led the Rams to the Premier League in 2007.

It’s all in our special edition, which is currently on sale for £3.50.

During the EFL All Access podcast, he stated that the manager aimed to create a team with his own identity at the close of the previous season.

“When he had that at Rotherham, he was promoted three times.” So, I believe it’s no accident that he was able to bring in guys who were more suited to him and his style of play. He had the entire preseason to get them fit; I know the lads struggled.

“Sprinkling a few in January as well that helped the group; Ebou Adams was fantastic for the cause towards the end of the season. He chose the proper individuals, both as personalities and as players. I’m delighted for him as a man and as a person, first and foremost, but I’m obviously delighted for Derby County as a football club.”
