Barnsley has released Herbie Kane, among others, just days after he was linked with a move to Derby County. Kane, a former Liverpool midfielder, is one of five players leaving Barnsley, alongside Nicky Cadden, Robbie Cundy, Devante Cole, and Jordan Williams.
Kane played a significant role in Barnsley’s push for the playoffs, contributing nine goals and five assists from midfield. Despite expressing his desire to secure promotion this season, Barnsley’s loss to Bolton in the playoffs has sealed his departure. Derby is now looking to strengthen their midfield, especially with Max Bird’s move to Bristol City.
Devante Cole’s exit from Oakwell doesn’t come as a surprise, given his impressive 18-goal tally in League One. He is expected to have multiple offers on the table.
Mladen Sormaz, Barnsley’s sporting director, confirmed the departures, praising the contributions of the departing players and expressing gratitude for their efforts on and off the field. He also reassured fans that the club is actively working to bring in new signings to achieve their goals for the upcoming season and beyond.
