The Denver Broncos have benched star quarterback Russell Wilson.

The decision, according to Wilson, came after Denver’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 29.

“I hope that it’s here. I hope that it’s here for a long time. … If it’s not here, I’ll be prepared to do that somewhere else, but I hope that it’s here. I genuinely mean that,” said Wilson.

According to ESPN, the Denver Broncos have four choices regarding Russell Wilson:

  1. They might let Wilson go before mid-March to avoid paying him $37 million. But this could lead to a huge $85 million charge in 2024, the biggest in NFL history for one player.
  2. Another option is to release Wilson with a post-June 1 designation, spreading the money impact over two years—$35.4 million in 2024 and $49.6 million in 2025. This seems more likely as the Broncos have financial flexibility in 2025.
  3. Even though Wilson’s contract says he can veto trades, recent NFL trades suggest it’s possible. The Broncos might have to offer something extra to make a trade appealing.
  4. The least likely choice right now is for Wilson and the Broncos to fix their issues and continue for a third season. Despite recent benching, the team hasn’t ruled out the chance of Wilson coming back.

Now, in response to the Broncos’ quarterback drama, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers

QB Antonio Brown took to social media, to weigh in. Brown’s tweet read:

“Niggas going out like Russell Wilson, I got a big Future.”

In this case, Brown is commenting on Russell Wilson’s challenging situation with the Broncos.

Simultaneously, he cleverly plays with the word “Future” in the second part of the statement.

By saying, “I got a big Future,” Brown is nodding to Ciara’s ex-fiance, rapper Future.

Currently, the Broncos, maintaining that nothing is finalized, are keeping the door open for Wilson’s potential return.

Russell Wilson, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round (75th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Tying Peyton Manning’s record for most passing touchdowns by a rookie, Wilson earned the title of Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year.

Over his career, he has secured nine Pro Bowl selections and played a pivotal role in leading the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowls.

In his first 11 NFL seasons, Wilson completed 3,371 of 5,218 passes at a 64.6% accuracy, accumulating 40,583 yards, 308 touchdowns, and 98 interceptions.

His statistics also include 901 rushes for 4,966 yards at an average of 5.5 yards per carry and a career record of 115-72-1.

However, in 2022, Wilson made a move to the Denver Broncos but faced challenges in replicating his previous success on the field.
