The Dallas Mavericks are having a fantastic season thus far, despite facing tremendous hardship in recent weeks.
Dallas has been winning games despite losing to the Denver Nuggets Friday night despite the injuries to several of their key players. Despite the ailments that Josh Green, Maxi Kleber, Dereck Lively II, and Kyrie Irving are now dealing with, the Mavs are still winning games.
The Mavs may turn to the trade market to reinforce their frontcourt in light of the numerous ailments. Bol Bol is also reportedly available, and the Mavericks were linked to Isaiah Stewart during the summer trade speculations. There have also been reports that Dallas has expressed interest in Stewart.
Why the Draymond Green suspension was a huge win for the Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs could need some depth behind Dereck Lively II in their rotation, so either of those players would be beneficial.
The Mavs face a difficult final stretch of games in 2023, with the Clippers, Suns, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, and Warriors. However, they will get a major reprieve on December 30 when they play the Warriors.
The NBA has suspended Draymond Green indefinitely. He will allegedly leave the club and attend counseling for the next three weeks. This implies that on December 30, Green will not be playing versus Dallas.
For the Mavericks, this is huge given of Green’s past with Dallas. The statistics support his apparent tendency to elevate his game when facing Dallas. Over his career, Green has scored 9.7 points per game against the Mavs, ranking him seventh highest of any NBA player against any team.
Additionally, against the Mavs, Green has the fourth-highest 3-point percentage (40.4) of any other NBA team. Given that his lifetime 3-point percentage is just 31.7 percent, this is an incredibly high number.
Not only did Green have strong individual performance against Dallas, but the Warriors have performed well when he is on the court. Green has averaged 15 points per game against Dallas over his past four games, and the Warriors are 6-2 in their last eight meetings with them.
It’s obvious that Green thrives in Dallas, and the Mavs are getting a huge break without him for their upcoming game.
