The injury-riddled Mavericks aim to bounce back against the humble Spurs.

Banged-up Mavs attempt to bounce back vs. Spurs - Field Level Media - Professional sports content solutions | FLMWhen they play on Saturday night in Dallas, the Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs will both be riding three-game losing streaks. Dallas just finished a game against a rival team in the Lone Star State, losing to the Houston Rockets 122-96 on Friday. Richaun Holmes and Tim Hardaway Jr. both scored 16 points, Dexter Dennis added 18 points, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper scored 20 points off the bench for Dallas. With standout player Luka Doncic (left quad strain), Dante Exum (leg contusion), Josh Green (right elbow sprain), Maxi Kleber (toe dislocation), and Dereck Lively II (left ankle sprain) sidelined, the Mavericks were a walking M.A.S.H. unit in Houston. The players in question will decide in the early afternoon if they will play on Saturday. Since guard Kyrie Irving was sent to the sidelines on December 8 at Portland due to a heel strain, Dallas has struggled. The Mavericks have a 3-4 record since he has missed the previous seven games. Doncic is beginning to tire from the workload; in December, he is playing an average of 40.4 minutes per game. Regarding Doncic, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd stated, “He’s tired.” “He should be weary because he works his (expletive) off. Every night, he creates shots for every player on the floor and faces double teams. He is the one making things difficult for the defenders on the field. We’re currently searching for someone who can cause a problem when (Doncic) is not on the floor, but it’s challenging. Nobody is sorry for us because we lack personnel.” The Spurs lost 114-95 at Chicago on Thursday and will conclude their three-game road trip by traveling to Dallas. Devin Vassell scored the most points for San Antonio with 21, followed by Zach Collins with 14, Malaki Branham with 13, and Keldon Johnson with 11. “We played pretty solid defense for three quarters,” San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich remarked following the game. “The Bulls ripped it open in the fourth quarter after we restricted them to only 25 points in the third. We’ve essentially struggled with scoring all year, and you have to score.” In just 22 minutes of court time, rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama was limited to seven points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field, which is around eight minutes less than his norm per game. Wembanyama was limited to “minutes restriction” against the Bulls, according to Popovich, after missing the first game of the road trip in Milwaukee due to a painful right ankle. Vassell declared, “We have to score the ball.” As a young team, we must be able to recognize each other’s advantages. Wemby is tall (7 feet 5 inches), so we must see him. We have to see him down there, whether he’s posting up or sealing early.” San Antonio is stuck in last place in the Western Conference after losing 21 of its last 22 games. On October 25, at the Alamo City, the Mavericks defeated San Antonio 126-119 in the teams’ season opener.
