On Christmas Monday night, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Phoenix Suns in Arizona, 128-114, sending the pretending Suns packing. You probably already know that Luka Doncic continued to score 50 points and dish out 15 assists after surpassing the 10,000 point threshold. Check out the recap and Doncic’s journey to scoring his first 10,000 points; the game was amazing. To go along with that game, here are some additional astounding statistics:

4 – On Christmas Day, Luka Doncic becomes the fourth player to score 50 or more.

Doncic is joining some really amazing company. On Christmas Day in 1984, Bernard King scored sixty. In 1961, Wllt Chamberlain scored 59 points. In 1966, Rick Barry scored fifty of his own. Now that Doncic scored fifty in 2023, that is the complete list.

Doncic becomes the first player to score 50 points on Christmas Day in 39 years, for those of you who are not very good at math.

-9 – Dallas prevailed despite losing the battle of the boards.

This game contains some nonsensical numbers. Dallas only made two more three-pointers, missed eight free throws, and gave up nine rebounds, but they still prevailed in the basketball game. In addition, the Suns prevailed on fast break and second chance points.

Although the Mavericks had far superior shooting, Dallas’s 14-point victory margin obscures how close the game was. This was a huge victory.

Eight – Victories without Kyrie Irving

All Dallas has to do is keep moving forward, especially when playing teams they can defeat. It is important to note how big of an X-factor Irving will be when he returns, especially since Dallas has won the 13 games in which he has been unable to suit up. The fact that they have made it this far shows how well the team is playing, even though they clearly NEED Irving if they want this season to succeed. I’m hoping he returns soon.
