According to Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards, the Mavericks are just one player away from contending for a championship.
The 2023–24 NBA season has gotten off to a somewhat respectable start for Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. For the Mavs, Doncic has continued to play at an MVP level, achieving seemingly everyday accomplishments. Dallas now has a strong 11-8 record heading into their Wednesday night game against the Utah Jazz.
Little forward for the Washington Wizards, Kyle Kuzma, recently shared his thoughts on the Mavs’ current roster structure in response to a fan’s question on X, the site that was originally known as Twiter.
“Away with the player. Kuzma wrote, “Lively will be good too.”
Early in his NBA career, Dereck Lively II has definitely displayed moments of brilliance. He was a major factor in the Mavs’ surprising finish last season outside of the postseason and helped to shore up their terrible defense. Even though a team led by Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic will probably never be the best defensively, the Mavs have improved this year with to the arrival of Lively and Grant Williams in the offseason and the ongoing development of guys like Josh Green.
However, Kyle Kuzma is likely right when he suggests that the Mavs need another scoring option to complement Doncic and Irving and make the team really unguardable if they are to compete with Western Conference heavyweights like the Denver Nuggets, the defending champions.
Meanwhile, on December 6 from Dallas, the Mavs and Jazz are scheduled to tip off at 8:30 PM ET.
