Mavericks are considering a trade for Jerami Grant; how would that work with the Trail Blazers?

The Dallas Mavericks will now turn their trade attention to possible power forward improvements on the trade market, such as Portland Trail Blazers’ Jerami Grant, with Pascal Siakam no longer available.

Prior to the trade deadline on February 8, the Dallas Mavericks expressed interest in Pascal Siakam. However, he is no longer available after being moved by the Toronto Raptors to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ Jerami Grant may be the Mavs’ best option at starting power forward now that they will have to search elsewhere for an upgrade.

The Mavs have “kept tabs” on Grant, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, but other reports claim the Trail Blazers have not yet indicated a desire to part with him.

“League sources told HoopsHype that the Mavericks have been monitoring Jerami Grant in Portland. In the upcoming weeks, Kyle Kuzma might be added to this list,” Scotto stated.

“Rival executives point to some combination of Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, Grant Williams, and draft compensation as Dallas’ best chance of making a trade for a frontcourt upgrade.”

One would have to think the Mavs would give Grant a serious consideration in exchange for Green, Hardy, and Williams if draft compensation was not a factor. But even that combo doesn’t work on its own when it comes to wage matching. What then would a feasible transaction entail?

Mavs lose against the Lakers, but Luka Doncic ties LeBron James for the top spot on the NBA’s all-time 30-point triple-double list.

Get this, Mavs: Jerami Grant.Grant Williams, Josh Green, Maxi Kleber, and a 2027 first-round selection are acquired by the Trail Blazers.

Hardy might also be included, but the Mavs would likely want to avoid making the trade of four players for one for depth concerns. Furthermore, as was already said, Dallas is already limited in what it can include in trade packages, so the draft-compensation issue is probably going to hinder them in trade negotiations. Though nobody knows what Luka Doncic will do before he becomes a free agent in 2026, the Trail Blazers may gain something by trading for the 2027 choice.

With an average of 21.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 45.9 percent from the field, including 41.2 percent from outside the arc, Grant is a good, useful player. On the other hand, he is currently in the first season of a five-year, $160 million contract that he signed last summer, and he will turn thirty in March. Even if Grant is a better player than Siakam, the Mavs shouldn’t have to pay that kind of price, which ultimately came down to Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, and three first-round picks.

Although Grant appears to be happy in Portland, the Blazers haven’t shown much interest in making offers for him thus far. However, things can change in these kinds of scenarios leading up to the trade deadline.
