Doncic has been recognized for his charity work off the court.
Luka Doncic, a Dallas Mavericks standout, has won yet another accolade. This time, however, it is for his off-court assists. Doncic received the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assists award for April, the NBA said.
Doncic will be presented with the David Robinson award, and the NBA will provide $10,000 to his foundation. Doncic’s charity has the goal of “empowering community heroes who bring the magic of sports to children, building a future in which active play shapes happy, empathetic kids, worldwide.”
Doncic is active in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond. Doncic, like Dirk Nowitzki, visits Cook Children’s Medical Centre and distributes knit caps and blankets to kids and families. He invited 50 children at the American Airlines Centre, allowing many to watch their first NBA game. Doncic also contributed $43,000 in bids to the Mavs Ball, the Mavs Foundation’s annual charitable event.
The list might go on, but Doncic will not be publicising it much. Again, like Nowitzki, he keeps his charity activity low-key.
“Basketball has given me so much and I have a big responsibility to give back by helping wherever I can,” Doncic added. “It means everything to me to continue expanding my foundation’s work by supporting those who are leading incredible community projects, connecting with more young people, and spreading more generosity and kindness.” I hope we can have an even greater impact next year.”
Doncic received the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award during halftime of Game 4 of the Clippers-Mavericks NBA Playoffs on April 28th. Governor Patrick Dumont of the Dallas Mavericks and Chief Executive Officer Cynt Marshall honoured him with the prize.
The NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award recognises Bob Lanier, an NBA League Office executive and NBA Cares Ambassador for over 30 years.
