Matchday Memories: Sky Blue On This Day in 2007 Leon’s Strike Causes Serious Damage

About 19,000 spectators watched the Sky Blues take on Luton Town at The Ricoh on this day in 2007. They witnessed the Sky Blues defeat the Hatters by a slim 1-0 margin, giving Micky Adams’ team their first victory in ten games against, let’s face it, subpar opposition. Micky, a former player, was soon to be let go when Ian Dowie assumed management of Sky Blue at the end of February. The Hatters had defeated us 3-1 at Kenilworth Road on December 23rd, so the victory was all the more sweeter. Their forward celebrates the goal.

On the other hand, all three of Southend United’s opponents—Luton Town and Leeds United—were relegated after finishing barely above them and with a ten-point deduction.
