Mark Goldridge reaction is ammunition for Coventry City

Mark Goldbridge, a supporter of Manchester United, was overjoyed when his team drew Coventry City in the FA Cup semifinal.

Following a thrilling victory at Wolves on Saturday lunchtime, Coventry City will play Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley next month.

The team captained by Mark Robins traveled to Molineux, where they dominated the first half of the match. Ellis Simms gave the Sky Blues the lead with a close-range bundling play.

But Wolves made a stunning comeback, led by Rayan Ait-Nouri, who equalized in the 83rd minute and then set up Hugo Bueno for the game-winning goal five minutes later.

However, Coventry was far from finished as Simms scored his second goal of the match deep into injury time, and Haji Wright’s superb winning goal in the final minute set up frenzied celebrations at the opposing end.

Man United will play Coventry City

The draw was announced on Sunday night, with Robins scheduled to play against his old team, Manchester United, at Wembley. The Sky Blues had to wait more than twenty-four hours to find out who their opponent would be.

Even though the Championship team will start as huge underdogs, it promises to be an exciting occasion, and they will fancy their chances of pulling off another upset.

Coventry probably doesn’t need any more inspiration for the match, but Red Devils YouTuber Mark Goldbridge might have provided it for them.

When Erik ten Hag’s team was drawn to play the Sky Blues, footage of the United supporters dancing and yelling went viral online, as he had predicted they would win the cup.

Coventry will love being the underdog

Since Coventry is the weakest team on paper, it makes sense that the top teams would have wanted them in the draw. However, Goldbridge’s response did seem insulting, especially in light of how Robins’ team performed against Wolves.

Coventry was excellent for the whole of the game and had a real chance to go up two goals ahead of Wolves before they equalized. If they had won, it might have been a more easy triumph.

Even so, their ability to come back from behind and win demonstrated a great attitude and revealed a genuine character inside the group.

Additionally, Coventry is under no pressure to win this game as United is the clear favorite, which alters the dynamics of the match and gives the Sky Blues more flexibility to play.

Coventry needs to prioritize pushing for promotion

Coventry still has a lot to gain in the Championship, so they can’t let this game become a distraction with more than a month until the game.

Championship Table (As it stands March 18th)
Team P GD Pts
1 Leeds United 38 42 82
2 Leicester City 37 41 82
3 Ipswich Town 38 31 81
4 Southampton 36 26 73
5 West Brom 38 23 66
6 Norwich City 38 15 61
7 Hull City 37 7 58
8 Coventry City 37 16 57

Despite nine games remaining and only four points separating them from the top six, promotion is still very much a possibility. This season, that is the goal.

Though it might be argued that the international break comes at the perfect time, Robins will only be focused on the match against Huddersfield later this month since focus will soon shift to the Championship.
