Five eye-catching Peterborough United stars who could be transfer targets for Coventry City

Darragh MacAnthony, the owner of Peterborough United, disclosed that Doug King and Coventry City like ‘quite a few’ of his players. Here, we examine five players who might be a good fit for the Sky Blues come summertime.

For the upcoming campaign, Coventry City has already added one interesting new player: Ephron Mason-Clark, a highly-regarded left winger for Peterborough United. But it has surfaced that the Sky Blues are interested in a few more of Posh’s players, as owner Darragh MacAnthony of the Cambridgeshire club disclosed.

The outspoken—some might even say loose-lipped—chairman provided an intriguing glimpse into the negotiations between himself and City owner Doug King’s “relentless” pursuit of Mason-Clark in his most recent podcast, The Hard Truth. The 47-year-old Irish entrepreneur said: “Doug asked for an option on one of my other players as well, because they like quite a few of our players.”

So who could Dean Austin and his recruitment department have their eyes on next? Here we take a look at the League One promotion hopefuls’ hottest players, who might just fit the bill for Mark Robins’ growing side. Naturally, Coventry have a clear process in place for identifying players who are relatively young but have a lot of promise for growth, and they have a track record of successfully developing these players under the guidance of Adi Viveash.

Harrison Burrows, 22, is a left midfielder and left back.

Burrows, who attended Peterborough’s Academy, has played in almost 150 first team games, including 36 in the Championship in 2021–2022, and has made 39 appearances thus far this season. Said to be a natural midfielder with quick reflexes for left-back defensive play, he is a good passer and forward even though he isn’t the fastest guy on the ground. He is, however, a superb crosser of the ball and has the second most assists in League One (9) and 4 goals in the league this season (6 in all comps).

Although his contract is up in the summer, Posh have an option of a further year.

Archie Collins, 24, midfielder

Signed from Exeter last summer for an undisclosed price, Collins has played 38 games to date for Posh, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He was once described as “a versatile player who can play up front, just behind the striker, wide right, wide left, or in central midfield” by Exeter, but he has since moved into a more regular position at London Road, in the middle of the park. Collins is a busier midfield player who snuffs out danger and is a great game reader. Although he has a long ball in his locker, he is a tidy passer. He is well knowledgeable about the pitch.

22-year-old defensive midfielder Hector Kyprianou is a right-footed center-back.

Kyprianou Named In Cyprus Squad For Qualifiers | Peterborough United - The  Posh

Former Tottenham Academy prospect Kyprianou signed a three-year contract with Posh in the summer of 2022 after leaving Leyton Orient for an unknown price. This season, he has made 40 appearances and scored five goals. Standing at six feet four inches, he usually accepts the ball deep. He can finish on the edge of the penalty box for crosses and is excellent at holding onto the ball under duress. He is a tall boy who is really helpful with sets. made his center-back debut in Cyprus last season, marking Erling Haaland.

During the final week of the January transfer window, Watford attempted to sign him. His contract expires in 2025.

Edwards, who joined Peterborough in the summer of 2020 for an undisclosed cost, has made 124 appearances overall in all competitions for the team. This season, he has appeared in 36 games. He’s a ball-playing defender who is regarded as outstanding when it comes to the ball and whose defensive play has also developed leaps and bounds.
