Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut conceded that his club had ‘a lot of luck’ against the Sky Blues.Erol Bulut admits Cardiff had ‘a lot of luck’ in securing three points against Coventry City, thanks to two own goals.

The Sky Blues took the lead in the 22nd minute with an impressive move by Ellis Simms. However, Liam Kitching scored two own goals in the 28th and 67th minutes, giving the Bluebirds the victory at the CBS Arena. This prevented the home side from closing the gap on sixth-placed Norwich in the race for the play-offs.

“I am happy because it is a great victory to come to Coventry and win,” Bulut exclaimed with excitement. “Coming back from 1-0 down in the game was difficult because, given Coventry’s recent results and their push for the play-offs, it was a significant victory for us.

“It was not easy coming here after two defeats in a row, especially the Swansea derby when morale was low and then against Sunderland when everyone was expecting a win, so that’s why it was really important to bounce back against Coventry.”

The German-born coach commented on Josh Bowler’s effect on both of his own goals, saying, “We counted on him 50 percent for both goals, which equals one goal.” He played well today, and we expect him to be even better in one-on-one situations. The first own goal was a stroke of luck, and the second was even luckier because it was a cross in that the defender touched and went into the net. But you have to be in that position to obtain that opportunity, which he did.”

He continued, “We are one of the best at set-pieces in the league, so today was great. We’ve had too many ups and downs in terms of individual performances this season, so we need more consistency, and if that happened, we’d be in a different scenario (in terms of the play-offs).

“We’re getting close to the playoffs now, and I believe it will be difficult. We don’t need to talk about that. I can say that we will aim to get as many points as possible in the final six games, and then we will see where we are.”
