Coventry City will already be planning for next season as some important decisions are set to be made on a number of their key players in the summer.
The Sky Blues have three players out of contract at the end of the campaign, with Luis Binks also returning to parent club, Bologna, following the end of his season-long loan.
But given Mark Robins’ side’s performances this season, interest is bound to come for some of their top players during the summer transfer window, while they welcome back three players currently out on loan, including January addition, Ephron Mason-Clark.
Football League World take a look at the players who could be looking for a way out of the CBS Arena following the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Having come through the academy at the Sky Blues, Jack Burroughs is yet to make an impact on the Coventry first team despite signing a new two-year deal with the club ahead of this season.
The 23-year-old has spent time on loan at three different clubs, making his most recent move to Lincoln City. He enjoyed a positive start to life at Sincil Bank, making 32 appearances for the Imps, showing his versatility by operating on the left and right of midfield, but an injury sustained at the start of the season halted that run in the side.
Burroughs has since been largely used as an unused substitute for Michael Skubala but has shown his ability in League One. With a year left on his current deal, Burroughs will be hopeful of making an impact in the first team, but given Robins’ side’s performances this season, it seems unlikely.
Therefore, he may be seeking an opportunity for more regular game time, whether that is on loan or a permanent deal remains to be seen. At a crucial stage of his early career, Burroughs has a difficult decison to make, with his future potentially away from the CBS Arena.
Simon Moore has firmly been third choice between the sticks for Robins’ side so far this season, with Brad Collins and Ben Wilson both comfortably ahead of the 33-year-old.
Given the player’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, a move away from the CBS Arena seems incredibly likely, especially given he still has the ability to be a top goalkeeper at this level.
The shot-stopper has been with the Sky Blues since 2021 but hasn’t played for the team since an FA Cup third round defeat to Wrexham in January 2023, and given the strength of the two goalkeepers in front of him, will likely be searching for a new team in the summer.
Ben Sheaf has become a key figure for Robins’ side this season, stepping up in midfield following the departure of Gustavo Hamer in the summer.
He has been a consistent presence in the side ever since moving to the CBS Arena nearly four years ago, helping the club continue their upwards trajectory through the Football League.
But in January, it was reported that the team who beat Coventry at Wembley, Luton Town, were keen on signing Sheaf following his excellent displays under Mark Robins.
While no deal materialised, the lure of potential Premier League football next season could be difficult for the 26-year-old to turn down, and he could look to complete a move to Kenilworth Road in the summer should they stay up, despite signing a new three-year deal only last year.
