Coventry City Calls for Donations to Honour 1987 FA Cup Winning Team.

Supporters’ memories of the Club are being revived as a result of the Sky Blues’ impressive performance in this year’s FA Cup.

It is fitting that after launching a fundraising campaign in January to honor FA Cup-winning managers George Curtis and John Sillett, City has advanced to the Quarterfinals this year of all years.

Donate now to the Statue Appeal, no matter how big or small.

In a historic Wembley final, the Club defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 under the leadership of the two men in May 1987. This contributed to their accomplishments at the Club, which already included them leading the organization to top flight safety in 1986 after taking command of it.

George played a total of 543 games for the Club between 1956 and 1969. He was a renowned player at the Club, serving as captain and leader of the Sky Blue Revolution in the 1960s as the Sky Blues advanced through the league. George was named a Life President of the Club in 2012, and Curtis went on to play a tremendously crucial role behind the scenes at the Sky Blues from 1972 to 1994 in commercial capacities and as Managing Director.

John became a player for City in 1962, and his right-back play helped the team get to Division 2. After 128 games, he departed in July 1966, however he did briefly serve as head coach in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After sharing leadership after the 87′ victory, Sillett assumed exclusive control of team operations. Before departing in November 1990, the squad placed 10th, 7th, and 12th. Later on, he would host matchday shows, scout for the Sky Blues, and serve as Life President.

Prior to the debut, private contributors gave almost £140,000, and more has been added since. Additionally, about £24,000 has been received online through Go Fund Me. Visit www.ccfc.co.uk/Statue-Appeal to contribute to the total.

Alternatively, you can make a direct payment to the Appeal’s bank account, which is 40-63-01, Account Number: 54561824.

You can also send checks to Statue Appeal, Judds Lane, CV6 6GE, C/O Mark Hornby, Coventry City FC, Coventry Building Society Arena.

A name will be placed on the plinth of the statue, which will be situated at the South Entrance of the Coventry Building Society Arena, for every person, family, or company that gives £500 or more.

On Thursday, May 9, Stoneleigh Deer Park is also hosting a golf day. Raise money for the Statue Appeal while having fun and socializing with former Sky Blues players, including those from the 1987 FA Cup winning team, and celebrities. The event consists of 18 holes of golf.

Teams of three can also play with a celebrity. The cost is £300.00 per team of four, which also includes a bacon batch and coffee upon arrival, an 18-hole green fee, a three-course dinner, and team and individual rewards using a stableford format. For bookings or further information, send Neil Sillett an email at neilsillett@icloud.com.

The chair of the Statue Appeal committee, Joe Elliott, stated that the group comprises Coventry City, fans, and families.

Many people have already made numerous contributions to the realization of this statue, which will honor George and John as they so rightfully deserve.

“A team mentality underpinned the 1987 Cup victory, and it will continue to do so when this statue is realized!
