Ranking the five highest wage earners at Coventry City this season
KEY POINTS
- Compared to the previous season, Coventry City has struggled to stay competitive in the Championship.
- The team’s salary structure changed as a result of the summer transfer window losses of important players.
- Kasey Palmer, Jay Dasilva, Ellis Simms, Haji Wright, and Luis Binks are the club’s top five earnings.
Coventry City has not been able to compete in the Championship at the same level as they did the year before.
The Sky Blues advanced to the play-off final when they were defeated by Luton Town on penalties after finishing in fifth position in the second division.
Despite drawing 1-1 with the Hatters in extra time, Mark Robins’ team was not able to advance to the top division.
During the hectic summer months for the team, important players like Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres left.
Several fresh faces arrived in their place, which would have made a big impact on the club’s wage bill.

Top earners like Gyokeres and Hamer both left, leaving a gap open to become one of the team’s top earners.
Here we look at the club’s top five weekly salaries, based on estimated figures taken from Capology…
5Kasey Palmer
£10,000-a-week
Palmer joined Coventry in the summer of 2022, signing from Bristol City as part of a three-year deal.
The 27-year-old was a regular in the team in his first season at the CBS Arena, featuring 29 times in the league as the Sky Blues earned a top five finish.
The Jamaica international has not quite been able to nail down a consistent place in the starting lineup, starting 19 of those 29 appearances last season.
Injuries have hampered his progress this campaign, with the forward not featuring as often as he would have liked so far.
But, regardless, he is a top five earner at the club and will be hoping to play a bigger role at the club in 2024.
4Jay Dasilva
£10,000-a-week
Dasilva signed for Coventry last summer following his departure from the Robins at the end of his contract.
The full-back arrived as a free agent, and immediately became one of the top earners at the CBS Arena following the move.
Dasilva has been an important part of Robins’ side since joining from Ashton Gate and will be hoping to help lead the team to another top six finish this year.
The 25-year-old signed a four-year deal upon his arrival at Coventry last summer.
3Ellis Simms
£25,000-a-week
Simms was a key transfer target last summer following Gyokeres’ departure, with Coventry in need of a new striker.
The former Everton forward had spent time on loan with Sunderland last season, where he bagged seven goals in 17 appearances.
This led to a lot of speculation over his future, with several Championship sides chasing his signature.
Simms signed for Coventry in a deal worth a reported £8 million, becoming the club’s third highest wage earner.
2Haji Wright
£25,000-a-week
Wright is another big-name signing from last summer, arriving in a deal worth a reported £7.7 million from Turkish side Antalyaspor.
The forward has been a consistent presence in Robins’ side so far this season, and will be hoping to live up to expectation after the fanfare surrounding his summer arrival.
Wright is the club’s second best paid player, becoming a top earner following his switch from Turkish football last summer.
1Luis Binks
£30,000-a-week
Binks is currently on loan from Premier Italian side Bologna, joining as part of a season-long agreement.
The defender is earning £30,000 per week, but it is unclear as to how much of that figure Coventry is paying.
However, the centre back could move to the CBS Arena on a permanent basis in the summer, if all parties agree to a transfer.
