Charlton Athletic is interested in signing Coventry City’s Matty Godden during the summer transfer window to strengthen their attacking options.

Matty Godden’s Career So Far

The 32-year-old began his career with Scunthorpe when they were in the Football League, but he struggled to obtain regular game time at Glanford Park, so he went on loan to a number of non-league clubs before joining Ebbsfleet permanently.

After impressing over two seasons with the Kent-based team, Godden was promoted to Stevenage, where he continued to be productive.

Peterborough United 48 18 3
Stevenage 88 35 11

After transferring to Peterborough United, he joined Coventry, a League One club, in the summer of 2019. He has been instrumental in the team’s success over the past five years.

Godden starred when they earned promotion, and he has been a regular for Mark Robins in recent years as the Sky Blues have established themselves in the second division.

This season, he has made 34 league appearances and scored six goals for Coventry. Despite missing out on the play-offs, they had a successful FA Cup run that culminated in a dramatic semi-final defeat to Manchester United.

Matty Godden is a Charlton Athletic transfer target.

Even though Godden has been a member of the squad this season, he may not be starting as many games as he would like.

Because of Ellis Simms’ and Haji Wright’s strong form, Godden has spent the majority of his time on the bench in recent months.

As a result, with the seasoned forward nearing the final year of his contract this summer, he could leave during the transfer window.

According to South London Press reporter Rich Cawley, the Addicks are interested in signing Godden to improve their team for their debut season under manager Nathan Jones.

“Charlton is interested in Coventry City’s Matt Godden.” Still under contract with the Sky Blues for another year, there is no certainty he will be available. If Godden were to go, there would be a lot of interest in League One.

If Charlton Athletic are to challenge for promotion next season, striker Chuks Aneke might play a key role.

Charlton Athletic’s Summer Transfer Plans

Charlton fans can look forward to an entertaining season as the squad has made tremendous progress under Jones, who has a proven track record of success at this level.

He will have used the last few months to examine the group, and it is evident that they want more firepower if they are to be promotion contenders next season, which must be the goal.

On paper, Godden appears to be a perfect signing.

He has previously shown himself at this level and has won promotions, something Jones will respect as a member of the squad. Most importantly, he would score goals for the squad and revolutionise the offensive.

You can’t believe he’ll be eager to leave a Coventry City team that’s performing well in the Championship, but greater game time for the Londoners is bound to appeal.

According to the update, Godden’s availability would pique the interest of League One clubs, making a move to Charlton a significant coup.
