A player targeted by Celtic is deemed “unlikely” to remain at their current EFL club beyond this summer and is expected to become a free agent, as reported by a journalist.

According to CoventryLive reporter Andy Turner, Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare is “unlikely” to remain at the club this summer. The attacking midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, leading to interest from Celtic and several unnamed Premier League clubs, as reported by Football Scotland.

Turner discussed O’Hare’s situation in a Q&A with CoventryLive, stating, “I guess there’s always a chance he could stay, but I would say that I think it’s unlikely, particularly now that there’s no chance of promotion, which was probably the one last hope of securing him on a new deal.”

Losing O’Hare would be a significant setback for Coventry City, although they have previously coped with the departures of Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer last year. Despite falling short of the play-offs this season, Coventry has been building for the future and reached the FA Cup semi-final, where they will face Manchester United at Wembley this weekend.

O’Hare initially joined Coventry City in 2019 on loan before making the move permanent. He has since made 138 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals, nine of which came this season. A product of Aston Villa’s academy, O’Hare also gained experience with Carlisle United in League Two before his move to Coventry.

Despite injury setbacks, O’Hare has been a key player for Coventry City, but it appears likely that he will depart as a free agent in late June, with Celtic reportedly interested in securing his services.
