Justin Houston a Potential Target for Browns
This late in the season, the Browns need to think outside the box when coming up with solutions. Veteran pass-rusher Justin Houston is one name that has emerged accessible despite the restricted number of alternatives.
On Tuesday, December 19, the Carolina Panthers released Houston, understanding that the team would let the four-time Pro Bowler to join with a contender.
For the balance of the season, a team attempting to claim Houston off waivers would just have to pay $194,000. This is because of the terms of his contract with Carolina, which included a $4.835 million signing bonus in addition to a minimum salary.
Houston would be a good fit for the Browns, where he could add Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith to the rotation of pass rushers. After defeating the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Cleveland improved to 9-5 and is now in a strong position to secure the first AFC Wild Card place.
Houston has made 151 starts and amassed 112 sacks in his career. Although the 34-year-old Houston’s time in Carolina didn’t go as expected, he did record 9.5 sacks in his previous campaign with the Baltimore Ravens.
Browns Defense Rises to Occasion Against Bears
This season, the Browns defense has persevered in producing despite a number of significant injuries. Against the Bears, the group performed admirably once more. That may not have been entirely clear from the final score of 20–17.
Two interceptions resulted in touchdowns for Chicago: one was returned for a score, while the other put the Bears in position to score from the 1-yard line.
Joe Flacco, the quarterback for the Browns, remarked after the game, “I don’t think enough can be said about how well our defense played with all the turnovers that we had and the little amount of points they let up.”
With 261.1 yards per game allowed, the Browns are giving up the fewest yards per game in the league. Every game, the unit is letting up 20.6 points.
This week, Cleveland will have an opportunity to surpass ten victories when they play the Houston Texans, who might start backup quarterback Case Keenum.
